Pocket Bikes – Why So Popular?
Pocket bikes are essentially miniature motorcycles, they have the same sleek look as real motorcycles but are much more affordable. Motorsport enthusiasts all over the globe are collecting pocket bikes to add to their collections. A pocketbike or minibike as they also are called, comes with all the parts of their full size cousins, but are only about two to three feet tall. They are usually powered by a four stroke or two stroke gas engine, but electrically powered models are also becoming increasingly popular. Pocketbikes can be a toy for a kid or a powerful racing machine for a pro racer. How you use it is up to you.
If you care about having a stylish machine that doesn’t look like anyone elses, or simply like to customize your ride, the pocket bike world will make this very easy. To begin with, you can get the machines in a large variety of colors, patterns and designs. Add to that the ability to further customize by adding decals, changing handlebars and so on. The general design of minibikes follows real size bikes very closely. So a chopper mini bike will look like a miniature chopper, a pit bike will look like a miniature motor cross and a mini pocket rocket will look like a smaller version of a GP racing bike. A good price point for your first pocket bike would be around $350. You can get a pocketbike for much less than that, but then compromises will have to be made. Most importantly you will get a frame that is made from inferior metal alloys making it heavier and less sturdy.
Before you take your new ride out for a spin remember to check the regulation and laws in your state or country. Most places forbid the sues of pocket bikes on public roads.
As many riders unfortunately have experienced on their own skin, a pocket bike is not a toy and a fall from one without the proper safety gear can be very painful. Wear at least a helmet and preferably a full riding kit including pants, jacket, gloves, knee pads and shoes. While being safer than a real motorcycle a mini moto can still reach very high speeds. And being very maneuverable it can be easy to lose control of one.
I know you will have a blast riding your minibike. Hopefully you will ride safely as well. Have fun!
New Drivers And There Auto Insurance Woes
As a new driver, you will have some new responsibilities. If you are reading this article, you could be a teenager that just got their license or someone older who never had a license before. Which ever your case, there are some things you need to know about care insurance and how you can become a safer driver on the road. Almost everyone gets a driver’s license at some point in their life, but not everyone always knows the risk involved every time you step foot into a vehicle.
What the Insurance Company Sees.
Being that you are a new driver, you will have to get car insurance. If you are a teen that just acquired your drivers license, it is best to stay on your parent’s policy until you have a few “safe driver” years under your belt. At this point, the insurance company, no matter which one you choose, will see you as a high risk driver. Statistics show that teenager pose a higher risk while driving because of a few common facts. These facts are as follows:
1. Distraction: It is common for a teenager to have many distractions. Distractions to a teen are heightened because they typically do not distinguish importance of responsibilities. Example, if a song they like is playing on the radio, and they are not in the best position to let go of the wheel or take their eyes off the road, they will still reach for that knob to turn the radio up. It is not they feel the song is more important that a wreck, but they just do not think of that wreck happening by turning up the radio. Another form of distraction can be in the form of other teenage friends in the car. Typically, when teenagers get around each other there is horseplay or conversation that could lead to not paying close attention to the road.
2. Cell Phones: Teenagers are super glued to that cell phone. As if talking on a cell phone while driving was not dangerous enough, teenagers will actually text on their cell phones while driving. Texting requires, for the most part, looking at the keys to type a message and then send. How long are their eyes off the road before they end up rear-ending a car?
3. Calculated Risk does not exist. Teenagers often times feel they are really invincible. This leads them to take greater risks while driving. Teenagers are known for speeding, cutting people off, racing other cars, and driving recklessly in general. Not every teen does this, but then again, there are instances to back this up, and that is what the insurance company looks at.
If you are not a teenager, and you are getting your license, they are going to see you as an inexperienced driver. Inexperience equals higher risk. When getting insurance, age does play an important factor, so in that respect, you would have that going for you.
Not matter if you are a teen getting your license or past that age, you will see and pay a higher premium until you can establish a superb driving record. This can take as long as 3-5 years.

The Jeep Commander Offers Convenience
The Jeep Commander made its debut in 2005. The event was held in New York at the Annual Car Parade. It is fair to say Jeep had a surprise package. First of all, the departure from conventional Jeep designs was noticeable in the new Commander. Not only does the Commander look different from its predecessor, the Grand Cherokee. The Commander provides more seating than the Grand Cherokee.
Jeep is aware of the competition in the SUV industry. Producing a rival SUV is not an option any more. The Jeep Commander is a response to critics and competitors. People are faced with a large selection of SUVs on the market. A customer has to decide the kind of vehicle he or she wants. The decision is based on price, performance, fuel economy, style, room capacity, durability, speed, and versatility. Jeep attempted to integrate a fair amount of each quality in its Commander model.
Jeep is excited with its Jeep Commander vehicle. It remains to be seen how the Commander will perform against other SUVs. The Commander is also expected to perform better than its past models. The improvement in passenger space makes it unique. If this improvement translates into increased sales, Jeep will fulfil its mission. The Commander shares its name with two past models, the Studebaker Commander and the Scammell Commander.
The main feature of the Jeep Commander is its moon roof. The Commander roof is tilted to the front. This feature allows the back seat passengers to have more leg space. The boxy appearance of the Commander is well proportioned. An equal balance between aesthetics and functionality. The Commander sports a modern look which doesn’t compromise its passenger capacity.
The old Jeep Wagoner has an external appearance which is slightly similar to the Jeep Commander. It’s amazing how the engineers blended the characteristics of the Jeep Wagoner with those of the Grand Cherokee. The Grand Cherokee inspired the development of the Jeep Commander. Features borrowed from the Grand Cherokee are not easily identifiable because of the stark difference in external appearance. They are more internal than external. This includes performance and power.
The engine power of the Jeep Commander is a matter of choice. Customers will be satisfied because they have to choose the type of engine they want. Customers should not expect a Formula-1 power engine. The Commander is made for rough and harsh terrains. Three types of engines are available for customers. These are the V6, and V8 engines. There is a V8 engine holding 3. 7 liters and a V8 engine holding 5. 7 liters. You simply have to choose between the two types of engines.
The Jeep Commander is a medium sized vehicle that satisfies the needs of SUVdrivers. Drivers of small SUVs are frustrated by the limited carrying capacity and large fuel consumption of small SUVs. Drivers of large SUVs are frustrated by the truck-like behaviour and large fuel consumption of large SUVs. Big SUVs don’t behave like ordinary petrol vehicles. They can be noisy and are not capable of smooth driving.
Critics of the Jeep Commander are often unaware of its advantages. The Commander comes with a fair price lower than the latest SUVs. Most families are under a tight budget regime in this recession. The Commander presents an opportunity for saving costs. The debut of the Commander may have come late, but it was worth it. Jeep has been patient and able to pull off an economy vehicle from its production line. Few would have succeeded in making such a versatile SUV.
SUV fans and consumers are enthusiastic about the next generation of Jeep Commanders. The Commander makers have one thing to brag about. The capacity of the Commander. No SUV can beat the Commander in this regard. At the same, they know that the Commander is not a vehicle that causes envy. It is such a simple vehicle with standard features. Rival SUVs boast of advanced features that put them ahead of the competition. Jeep has begun to modify the Commander, slowly but surely. The Jeep Commander Overland has been furnished with platinum plating. Its side moulds, side roof, rear assist and grilles are all platinum. A power lift gate has been introduced as well.
Annual sales of the Jeep Commander have not been impressive. Jeep recorded a poor performance on its Commander model in February 2007. The Commander sales went down by 24%. However, the Commander was not the worst loser. The biggest loser was the Jeep Liberty which registered a 41% decline in sales. Slightly below the Commander is the Jeep Cherokee which declined by 22%. The Jeep brand had some face savers though. The Jeep Wrangler was the biggest winner with 63% increase in sales. Another winner, the Jeep Compass which made its debut in 2006 sold a promising 4, 071 units.
Transportable Auto Air Conditioner As Green Alternative
Your car could have a complex air conditioner build in, but do you know at what cost to our planet your cold air luxury comes? Let us look at some aspects of it.
Non-portable car air conditioners taps into the power generated by the motor running to perform it’s cooling task. With the engine doing more work to accommodate the air conditioner, the fuel consumption goes up dramatically. More fuel used means more oil needed to make the fuel, which leads to earth getting stripped of even more oil.
The gas sealed inside your aircon unit plays a role in heat exchange. This inactive gas is highly poisonous to the environment which wouldn’t be a problem should it stay in the cooling system, but it slowly leaks through the tubes its housed in. For a cooling system to work, this gas needs topping up every year.
These 2 factors alone should sound alarm bells with concerned voters. Luckily there is a completely natural and chemical free solution in a modern portable car air conditioner that not only cool down your car’s's interior, but you can take it with you wherever you go.
The energy usage of these clever machines comes in at a minute 12-volt charge, which incidentally can be raised with a single portable solar charger or re chargeable batteries. Compare this tiny energy need with the fuel-consuming monster in your auto and you too will realize the positive impact this cooler can have.
The transportable model contains no harmful gasses as it functions using clear clean water only. The process of water evaporation drives the unit. This process leaves no damaging smoke or by products like exhaust gasses behind that pollute the atmosphere. It seems you cannot fail selecting this cooler as the perfectly green alternative to fixed air conditioners.
You can find more information about air conditioners at http://www.portablecarairconditioner.net where you can read about Portable Car Air Conditioner.
How Did The Automobile First Come About?
The majority of the Earths population have come to rely on motor vehicles as their main method of transport and as they are such a common modern convenience, it is difficult to imagine life without them. The motor vehicle came to prominence in the 20th century but its origins came about before that, so who was the very first to take the horses off the carriage and make a self-propelled vehicle?
Ferdinand Verbiest is credited with the invention of the very first invention that could reasonably come under the name, automobile. It was in 1672 that he invented a toy for the Chinese Emperor of the time that was a small, steam powered, carriage-like (although too small for a passenger or driver) toy auto mobile.
After this there were several attempts at a self-propelled carriage, the first of which can be accredited to Nicolas-Joseph Cugnot in 1769, however there was doubt surrounding his invention as to whether or not it actually worked.
In 1806, the first internal combustion engine was invented by an inventor from Switzerland called Franois Isaac de Rivaz. It was powered using a mixture of oxygen and hydrogen and, although a break through at that time, it wasnt very successful in providing a feasible mode of transport.
The man that history seems to give most of the credit too for inventing the modern automobile is Karl Benz, despite the fact that there were quite a few other inventors working on it at the same time such as Gottlieb Daimler, Wilhelm Maybach, and Siegfried Marcus. Benz had completed his motorwagen by 1885, was granted the patent in January 1886 and by 1893, had sold 25 vehicles to the wealthy folk of the day who could afford the latest luxuries.
Daimler and Maybach founded DMG (Daimler Motoren Gesellschaft / Daimler Motor Company) in 1890 under the brand name Daimler. Their first vehicle was a horse drawn carriage with one of their engines in it. By 1895 they had made around 30 automobiles, but they and Benz seemed unaware of each others early work.
Right towards the end of the 1900s the crankshaft and piston engine came about and throughout the 20th century developed into the sophisticated piece of technology we know it as today. Mergers between DMG and Benz in later years bore the Daimler-Benz company and the Mercedes-Benz automobile range.
Rough It In A Comfortable RV
When I was a young man I would hike and camp under the stars. I loved to go places I had never been before. But I will admit as I am a bit older now, I do enjoy R.V. camping.
RV’s are available in many different sizes and shapes. The smallest is a camper shell that fits in the back of a pick-up truck. Although they may be small there is a lot of convenience in a very small area.
The next step up is a van conversion. A class B motor home is simply a cargo van that is used as a camping vehicle. Sometimes the roof is raised a bit to offer more head room.
The class C motor home looks like a pick-up in the front. There is a sleeping area over the cab area, the back end looks like a motor home. The class C has all the comforts of home. A bathroom, kitchen, living room and bedroom. You could live comfortable in a class C.
The next larger version is the class A. These motor homes are like a mini one bedroom apartment, the roomiest of all the RV’s. They are completely self contained from the queen sized bed to the dinette that seats four people in luxury.
Class A motor homes are usually equipped with a refrigerator and stove, some even have a microwave oven. There may even be an ice maker, some models are capable of producing 20 pounds a day.
There are also travel trailers that hook to a regular trailer hitch and have a pop up top. If you would like to go a little larger there is the fifth wheel trailer that is towed through a hitch in the bed of a pick-up. Either of these two choices are extravagant and they are much cheaper than a motor home.
If you are not sure that camping is for you, start off small maybe even a used camper to get the feel of the situation. But which ever way you decide to go you should learn all you can about RV’ing before hand. There are RV forums online that you can ask question of and receive a lot of free and valuable information.
When automotive camping gets old it is time to invest in RV outing. They have all the comforts of home in the great outdoors. They are great for long vacations or just a quick weekend get away. They are available in many different sizes and shapes to please everybody. Grab a totally unique version of this article from the Uber Article Directory
A Twenty First Century First. A Harley Davidson With Brakes!
Who on earth decided that 105 years was a milestone event? Apparently Harley Davidson did. Not content with celebrating their Centenary in style, the ever saturnalian motorcycle manufacturer pulled out all the stops to celebrate their 105th anniversary, almost completely ignoring their loyal owners club who were celebrating a true milestone. 2008 was also the Harley Owners Group’s (H.O.G) 25th Silver Anniversary.
Now Harley Davidson are fairly adept at holding commemorative festivals and 2008′s was certainly no exception. They took over the Milwaukee lakefront for four whole days of parties, run-outs and displays with H.O.G. holding their own bash at Miller Park. On top of this they arranged no fewer than 105 runs from separate Dealerships across the states, all ending at the event and released no less than 14 separate limited edition style modifications to their range.
These limited edition bikes were all painted in the same anniversary livery of copper and black with matching seat and tank decorations as well as some carefully considered detailing, again in copper or black, to many other parts such as the air cleaners or head casings. Some of the models also received a Harley Davidson first in the form of optional ABS with Brembo brake disks with the top of the range machines fitted as standard.
Not content with implementing an existing system the image-conscious brand felt it necessary to design the system from the bottom up, hiding many of the elements completely from sight within the wheel hubs themselves. The result also ended up being rather lighter than the existing methods would have allowed.
Top of the Harley Davidson range in 2008 was the CVO Ultra Classic Electra Glide. This is a bike with more features than an American sitcom. It has a 160 Watt stereo system, Satellite Navigation, Cruise Control and even heated leather seats! With the addition of ABS that doesn’t even lock up when applied on gravel it becomes something truly magnificent.
Then there’s its positively huge Twin Cam 110 engine to consider. There’s a full 1803 cubic centimetres of V-Twin power under the tank of these monsters. And it’s fully rubber mounted to allow the traditional Harley Shake to continue unhindered without affecting rider comfort over whatever distance you care to ride. It hardly rattles the bike at all but still sounds so beautifully ‘Harley’ and looks the part as well.
The only real competition this motorcycle has in its class is, in my opinion, the Honda Goldwing. On paper they have an amazingly similar spec, even the engine sizes almost match. But in reality let’s be honest, one of them has infinitely more style than the other. In fact it takes image into a completely different league. And with brakes that actually work I can’t imagine there’s much choice left at all and the votes will have already been cast.

* This gets great gas mileage which is a huge plus. Around town it gets 16 mpg and on the freeway it gets 22 mpg.
o Safety is great on the Jeep Liberty. With antilock disc brakes, traction control, stability control and side curtain airbags that are all standard the Liberty was awarded a five star rating for impact crashworthiness.
* The luggage space is 31. 5 cf and when the seats are lowered the luggage space is 64. 6 cf. There is a lot of leg room in the back seat and the front is very spacious. The inside comes in shades of gray and if you want leather padding then you can pay more for that.
* The headlights on the Jeep Liberty are standard.
o There is standard remote keyless entry.
For such a sturdy vehicle, this model is fit for off road travel. It sells for around $23, 000 to start. The anti roll bars, great shocks and better brakes are standard on all of the models. For more options, the Jeep starts in the low 30, 000s. This is a great price for a modern SUV.
Being a more compact SUV gives the Jeep Liberty the advantage with the soaring gasoline prices these days. They are very popular among the SUV buyers. Most people that have loved Jeep for years love the Liberty model for its efficiency and its dedication to staying true to the Jeep name. It was built to go off road so don’t expect it to do as well on pavement, although it does better than previous year’s models.
Cheap Auto Glass
The number one question you have to answer, in regards to dealing with a cracked windshield, is whether you need a complete replacement (which will cost you around $200) or just a repair (which is priced at around $40).
The probability of you getting a replacement windshield is greatly increased if the cracks make the surface uneven, or are located at the center or the edges of the windshield. A lot of the auto glass services in your area will come to you directly.
If we see a crack in our windshield we automatically assume the worst and think that the windshield is going to crack in no time. This is not really the case because the windshield consists of a 2 layers (2 plastic layers sandwich in a glass layer). As such, you can expect your windshield to last a long time without further damage, especially if the crack is tiny.
If you want to play it safe, however, you can call an auto glass service to inspect and perhaps repair the damage. Seeing that a repair, and even a replacement, is not that expensive, its probably worth calling your local auto glass repair service.
If you find out that you need a complete windshield replacement, you can save a lot of money by going to a junkyard and picking up a nice used windshield from there. Since color does not matter, theres a good chance that you’re going to find a matching windshield for your auto.
After you purchase the used windshield from the junkyard, it is best that you seek the services of an auto glass business as you may cut yourself if you try to install the windshield by yourself. It will cost about $40 to get the pre-owned windshield installed.
Wouldn’t your auto insurance policy pay for the cost to repair or replace a damaged windshield?
It depends. If the windshield got damaged in an accident, in which the other party was found to be at fault, their property damage liability will pay for the cost to repair the windshield. If, however, the crack appeared from no apparent accident you’re going to need comprehensive insurance to pay for the damages. If you don’t have comprehensive coverage, then you’re out of luck.
Regardless of these facts you should talk to your insurer to see what their specific policies are.
Read Driving Articles About Safety Before Getting Behind The Wheel
While we are used to teenagers beginning to drive at 16 in most states of the United States, the minimum age for obtaining a driver’s license in most other countries is 18. The measure of waiting an additional two years was taken by these countries in order to avoid many of the fatalities connected to young inexperienced drivers. Many teens enjoy driving at a very high rate of speed. Care should be taken and advice given to teens to avoid such behavior, but they often have the immortal complex and do not take well to such verbal warnings. In such cases, driving articles that have been written by NASCAR drivers, may offer another solution. Since such drivers are often teen heroes, things can be said in the driving articles in such a way as to meet teens where they are. If such safety precautions are not followed, the death rate of teens involved in accidents will increase.
Do not forget to always buckle your seat belt. The seat belt works to keep you inside the roll cage of the automobile in case of serious accident. Drivers and passengers who remain in the vehicle during an accident have a greater chance of survival than people who are ejected from the vehicle.
Always take time to adjust all mirrors before leaving your driveway. This precaution allows you to see traffic on all sides of your vehicle. Mirrors are not meant just for an occasional check to see what is happening, but should be used at all times so that you are aware of what is happening all around you.
Use of headlights, both at night and in the day is also a very cautious move in making yourself more visible to the oncoming traffic. This will help in avoiding accidents as well. You will be visible and you will be safer. If you think that there is some problem with the headlights then you should go to a garage first to have them replaced.
Maintain a steady and consistent speed. Keep a check for the speed limit and try to stay close to that limit. This is the best option you can try to avoid high speed crashes. Maintain a constant and safe speed.
The use of turn signals any time you are turning or changing lanes will allow other drivers to know your intentions. Drivers who know your intentions, will be better able to anticipate your moves. Without this knowledge, you can become a safety hazard.
Do not forget about your horn. It should be a warning device to let other drivers know of a danger. Make sure that your horn use is friendly and not just a way to express your road rage. In case of vehicle breakdown, do not forget to use the emergency flashers. They can warn approaching traffic that you are stopped in the road way in order to avoid an accident.
You should have a detailed knowledge of road signs. This will help you in not being stuck. It will avoid accidents as well. Usually the knowledge of sign boards is mandatory in your driving test written portion.
To have a good idea about what is going on ahead of you, look to 15 to 20 seconds ahead. This will help you to have an advanced warning about who is coming from front and what action you must take. Be careful and attentive. Do not doze off. This will keep you safe.
