Mudding Trucks

What would be a better transmission for a mudding and daily driver truck, a TH400 or a 700R4?

the 700r4 transmission give you the advantage of a .70 overdrive gear. many transmission specialists can build you a performance transmission capable of handling your hp needs.

   TH400 is a much heavier trans made for HD use but with no overdrive, just a 3 speed automatic, the 700R4 has the overdrive for economy on highway usage. Both are very good transmissions. But what would you be using the truck more of, daily highway or just weekend mudding? I use the TH400 in my Corvette and it is strong as hell for my use, but sometimes i wish i had the OD for highway driving. i feel the 400 is the stronger trans in your case as well.

   All of them stock but the corvette had a 4 to 3 WOT downshift. The trans will not stay in 4th gear at full throttle. It will downshift to 3rd gear giving you the same 1.00 gear ratio at the th-400.

   I had my camaro with th-400 up to 152 MPH so I guess thats not speed huh?

   The 700r4 is a weak transmission, if you plan on using taller, bigger mud tires, you will kill the 700r4 pretty quick. I would use the th-400 if tire size is going to be over 30" tall

   I have an 87 Chevy 4×4, with the 700r4 transmission, that just went, will a 400 transmission bolt up without changing alot of other parts
