Romping tractors in deep mud/swamp/creek!

Taking these 60′s garden tractors back through the woods, and the through the crazyiest stuff we can find. through all the mud, swamps, and the deep creek. mikes bolens 1000 was running off a magneto, and i didn’t know if it was reliable enough to be going through 2 and a half feet of water with. When i first put that Wisconsin Tr-10D engine on it, i hooked up the magneto, and it ran horribly. so i threw a coil on it, and it ran perfect. and i just stuck with that all last year. then i took the Startergenerator off of it, and made it pull start. not having a battery anymore, i took the 12V coil off of it, and returned the beast to the magneto. and it seems to run fine… but i really thought it wouldn’t take that water well at all. It was a Crazy thing, the other tractor, the 1050, with the 850 engine has a 12V coil, and that actually died in the middle of the creek! for a few seconds. i shook the coil wire off, and it started right back up. :) good thing too, because that water was cold, and i don’t know how we were gonna get those 550 pound tractors out of the creek… haha

oh yeah, and early on the rubber flex plate/u-joint type thing on mikes 1220 exploded when we were going around the circle. and thats a first! never had that problem before. i should probably go and fix that today.

    I think this was …
I think this was before we went in deep water with it. We didn’t have a chain on us, and were pretty affraid it would just die out there. or the belt would slip and it wouldn’t move or something. But that thing ended up doing better then most in really deep water : ) very impressive! :) I think the points were uncovered too, that worried me.

    Yep, the tires and …
Yep, the tires and the office chair seat on the one. the red bolens has a lower HP engine, but the same pully. so it goes the same speed, just with less Umph. the bolens go 6.5MPH top speed. but maybe we over rev them some. deffinatly keep the throttles out pretty far. :) The sears is kinda slower but has 19.9HP. so its pretty unstopable powerwise. the red bolens is putting out 8.25 hp brand new… seems like 6 now… haha

    Bar lugs are the …
Bar lugs are the best for crazy deep mud, but the ativ tires seem to get better traction on alot of other types of stuff. especially hard ground, with slimy mud on top. bar lugs don’t do much on that. but the atv’s seem to dig right in. Maybe not all kinds, but the ones i have on my wheel horse really dig in awesome. almost unstopable :)

haha, yeah, i know what you mean, its fun some times, because it makes stuff more difficult, and you have to try harder and all, but other times its just stupid. when you’re just stuck on nothing, and the thing won’t budge… yeah. gets annoying sometimes. But better for going sideways and donuts and all that :) Try to find Used ATV tires! you can probably pick some semi beat ones up for cheap or free, and they do awesome on tractors! :) have them on a few tractors

If i ever get rich, i’ll come up there with a bolens in the back of a truck, and we’ll romp the out of some mud man :) Glad you guys are giving it to it though!

    On the bolens we …
On the bolens we mainly have 8.25 HP Wisconsin single cylinder’s. The white bolens has a 10HP wisconsin, but they are all so worn out they aren’t putting out much power at all. The sears has a 15HP 1 Cylinder briggs, and the wheel horse has a 5.5HP honda. Lately we have 2 hydrostatic bolens going, one with a 12HP wisconsin, and one i put a 18HP twin briggs on! that thing is crazy! These are all horizontal shaft engines too.
Yeah, i want to make more footage of fixing these beasts. :)

haha! yeah, :) i know what you mean. its more fun because its harder, you have to try to get through stuff, and then when you do, you feel like you’ve actually acomplished something.
It is rough though! the more often i do it, the less i’m messed up the next day. last year i was doing it so often that i didn’t even feel it the next day :)
