The 5 Car Maintenance Mistakes That End Up Costing A Fortune
Many people don’t realize how much money they can save if they were to just take the time to do some simple things for their car. Every one is busy today, with work and relationships and lots of other stresses, but taking ten minutes out of your hectic schedule to do some simple care care maintenance, can save you time and money in the long run.
Here are some common mistakes people make with their cars:
1) Not keeping tires inflated – To do this, you’ll have to get a tire pressure gauge. At about $5, they’re pretty inexpensive. The next thing you’ll need to do is find the recommended tire pressure that’s listed on your tires. Finally, check the tire pressure to see if it matches.
Doing this process saves you a number of headaches. For starters when your tires are inflated to the correct PSI you actually burn less gas. In today’s economy that’s the one thing we are sure we don’t want to waste. Plus, you don’t have to buy new tires as often and most importantly an underinflated or overinflated tire does not perform at it’s best meaning it can be hazardous. They can blow out and can cause an accident. At the very least you’ll have to pay to repair or replace that tire. Note: A spare tire should only be used to drive to a repair shop. They are not meant to permanently replace the blown out tire.
2) Fluid levels too high or too low – Not only do you need to check the fluid levels but you need to be sure to check them at the correct time in the correct way. For instance if you own a car in an automatic the car should be warm. On top of the car being warm the parking brake needs to be on and the car in neutral. When checking the engine oil the car again should be warm but in this case the car needs to be turned off. It is important to remember the car must be cold when checking the radiator fluid levels. Not doing so can result in serious injury due to build up.
3) Changing your own oil or not changing your oil regularly – Many people think they are doing themselves a favor by changing their own oil but changing your own oil can end up costing you way more in the long run. First raising your own car to change your oil in the first place can be dangerous. Plus, draining your oil causes a big mess, and then you have the responsibility of getting rid of the old oil.
That’s why taking your car to a lube shop is the best choice. They’ll check all fluids and top of everything, they’ll lubricate the chassis, and do a few other things, for a pretty low price. Using a lube shop is typically less expensive, and a whole lot faster too.
4) Failing to have the brakes checked or pads changed regularly – When you are driving down the street and apply the brakes do you ever hear a high pitch squeal? That sound is telling you that the brakes have worn down so much that they are scraping against the rotors and drums. Wearing them down to this point can cause and will cause damage the the drums and rotors. You’ll save a lot of money if you have your brakes checked rather than replacing the brakes pads, drums, and rotors on your car.
5) A loose gas cap – When you gas cap is loose in most cases your engine light will turn on. Many people take their car into the mechanic to find out what the problem is. A diagnostic can be highly expensive and completely avoidable if you just tighten your gas cap after every fill up.

Choosing A Quality Car Insurance Plan Today
When it is time for choosing a quality car insurance plan you should keep a few things in mind.
Not all car insurance companies are alike. Some are not as likely to be able to pay a claim as others are. In order to tell the best car insurance companies, you will need to look at their ratings. Look for an insurance company rated A+ or better.
The second factor in choosing a quality car insurance plan is to choose a company that offers insurance plans that are important to you. For example, if you rent vehicles on a regular basis, you may want to find a company that offers insurance on rental vehicles. This can save you up to twenty-five dollars per day on auto rentals.
When buying that insurance, you will want to add collision and comprehensive damage to the policy. This pays for damage to your vehicle if you are in an accident and are at fault. It also pays if your vehicle is vandalized or stolen. This type of loss is becoming far too common today to do without this insurance.
Medical coverage for your passengers will insure that your loved ones will be able to have any necessary medical procedures paid for in full. Medical expenses can add up quickly and persons involved in accidents often require intensive care that can cost over thirty thousand dollars per day. The small charge you pay for insurance is well worth the protection that it provides.
Additionally you want a quality policy so that any person who is injured by an accident caused by your vehicle will also have all their medical needs met. You will want sufficient coverage to cover their medical expenses, time lost and vehicle damage. A quality insurance plan means that these need can be met and can help to keep you out of the courtroom and nasty lawsuits.
Some people choose car insurance based simply on cost. This is not the ideal way for choosing a quality car insurance plan. Often the difference between an okay car insurance plan and a quality car insurance plan is only a few dollars per month.
If you want to save money on a quality car insurance plan, consider paying the policy in full rather than having the policy broken up into monthly payments. Insurance companies are adding a monthly service charge for the convenience that may be five or more dollars per month. On a six month policy, that can add thirty dollars to the cost of the policy.
If you are able to pay the policy in full the first time you purchase it, then make monthly payments to a savings account for the next time the policy is due. Pay that service charge to yourself in the form of a savings account. You may end up with enough money to buy yourself a well deserved present. Go ahead, you have earned it.

Four Easy Ways to Save Money When you Buy a Car or RV
In these uncertain economic times, people are looking to save money anyway the can. This article will show you 4 ways to save money on the purchase of your next vehicle or RV.
I like to save with what I call loss leaders. 2 of the last 3 cars I have bout brand new have been loss leaders. This is the car everyone sees advertised on the front page of the newspaper, but when you call, it is always gone. If you just make friend with a few of the sales people, you can usually show up and buy this car a day before the ad goes out in the newspaper. This can allow you to buy 30 to 40% below MSRP. I bought a brand new Chevy Silverado this way for $11,500, when the MSRP was almost $19,000.
Negotiate price fiercely as well and the amount of your trade in. Never negotiate on the basis of a monthly payment. (You should be paying cash anyway.) Often dealers use a low monthly to hide the fact that the vehicle is overpriced or that they are giving you nothing for your trade in so be careful.
Want to save 30 to 50% on the total price you pay for the car or RV, then the easiest way to do this is to pay cash. The benefit to paying cash is that it forces you to buy on the car you can afford. Also after buying it, you can start saving your monthly payment and thus have your interest working for your money instead of against it for the next 5 years. It is amazing that you can eventually use this technique to get a Cadillac for the price of a KIA.
Shop and compare pricing before you buy. It is relatively easy to find a great deal online. See if you can use this on a local level to leverage a lower sales price on the purchase or your next car, truck, or RV. If you choose, you can even save money buying online because these dealerships have a smaller overhead and can offer you very competitively priced models.

How Did The Automobile First Come About?
The majority of the Earths population have come to rely on motor vehicles as their main method of transport and as they are such a common modern convenience, it is difficult to imagine life without them. The motor vehicle came to prominence in the 20th century but its origins came about before that, so who was the very first to take the horses off the carriage and make a self-propelled vehicle?
Ferdinand Verbiest is credited with the invention of the very first invention that could reasonably come under the name, automobile. It was in 1672 that he invented a toy for the Chinese Emperor of the time that was a small, steam powered, carriage-like (although too small for a passenger or driver) toy auto mobile.
After this there were several attempts at a self-propelled carriage, the first of which can be accredited to Nicolas-Joseph Cugnot in 1769, however there was doubt surrounding his invention as to whether or not it actually worked.
In 1806, the first internal combustion engine was invented by an inventor from Switzerland called Franois Isaac de Rivaz. It was powered using a mixture of oxygen and hydrogen and, although a break through at that time, it wasnt very successful in providing a feasible mode of transport.
The man that history seems to give most of the credit too for inventing the modern automobile is Karl Benz, despite the fact that there were quite a few other inventors working on it at the same time such as Gottlieb Daimler, Wilhelm Maybach, and Siegfried Marcus. Benz had completed his motorwagen by 1885, was granted the patent in January 1886 and by 1893, had sold 25 vehicles to the wealthy folk of the day who could afford the latest luxuries.
Daimler and Maybach founded DMG (Daimler Motoren Gesellschaft / Daimler Motor Company) in 1890 under the brand name Daimler. Their first vehicle was a horse drawn carriage with one of their engines in it. By 1895 they had made around 30 automobiles, but they and Benz seemed unaware of each others early work.
Right towards the end of the 1900s the crankshaft and piston engine came about and throughout the 20th century developed into the sophisticated piece of technology we know it as today. Mergers between DMG and Benz in later years bore the Daimler-Benz company and the Mercedes-Benz automobile range.
Rough It In A Comfortable RV
When I was a young man I would hike and camp under the stars. I loved to go places I had never been before. But I will admit as I am a bit older now, I do enjoy R.V. camping.
RV’s are available in many different sizes and shapes. The smallest is a camper shell that fits in the back of a pick-up truck. Although they may be small there is a lot of convenience in a very small area.
The next step up is a van conversion. A class B motor home is simply a cargo van that is used as a camping vehicle. Sometimes the roof is raised a bit to offer more head room.
The class C motor home looks like a pick-up in the front. There is a sleeping area over the cab area, the back end looks like a motor home. The class C has all the comforts of home. A bathroom, kitchen, living room and bedroom. You could live comfortable in a class C.
The next larger version is the class A. These motor homes are like a mini one bedroom apartment, the roomiest of all the RV’s. They are completely self contained from the queen sized bed to the dinette that seats four people in luxury.
Class A motor homes are usually equipped with a refrigerator and stove, some even have a microwave oven. There may even be an ice maker, some models are capable of producing 20 pounds a day.
There are also travel trailers that hook to a regular trailer hitch and have a pop up top. If you would like to go a little larger there is the fifth wheel trailer that is towed through a hitch in the bed of a pick-up. Either of these two choices are extravagant and they are much cheaper than a motor home.
If you are not sure that camping is for you, start off small maybe even a used camper to get the feel of the situation. But which ever way you decide to go you should learn all you can about RV’ing before hand. There are RV forums online that you can ask question of and receive a lot of free and valuable information.
When automotive camping gets old it is time to invest in RV outing. They have all the comforts of home in the great outdoors. They are great for long vacations or just a quick weekend get away. They are available in many different sizes and shapes to please everybody. Grab a totally unique version of this article from the Uber Article Directory
Cheap Auto Glass
The number one question you have to answer, in regards to dealing with a cracked windshield, is whether you need a complete replacement (which will cost you around $200) or just a repair (which is priced at around $40).
The probability of you getting a replacement windshield is greatly increased if the cracks make the surface uneven, or are located at the center or the edges of the windshield. A lot of the auto glass services in your area will come to you directly.
If we see a crack in our windshield we automatically assume the worst and think that the windshield is going to crack in no time. This is not really the case because the windshield consists of a 2 layers (2 plastic layers sandwich in a glass layer). As such, you can expect your windshield to last a long time without further damage, especially if the crack is tiny.
If you want to play it safe, however, you can call an auto glass service to inspect and perhaps repair the damage. Seeing that a repair, and even a replacement, is not that expensive, its probably worth calling your local auto glass repair service.
If you find out that you need a complete windshield replacement, you can save a lot of money by going to a junkyard and picking up a nice used windshield from there. Since color does not matter, theres a good chance that you’re going to find a matching windshield for your auto.
After you purchase the used windshield from the junkyard, it is best that you seek the services of an auto glass business as you may cut yourself if you try to install the windshield by yourself. It will cost about $40 to get the pre-owned windshield installed.
Wouldn’t your auto insurance policy pay for the cost to repair or replace a damaged windshield?
It depends. If the windshield got damaged in an accident, in which the other party was found to be at fault, their property damage liability will pay for the cost to repair the windshield. If, however, the crack appeared from no apparent accident you’re going to need comprehensive insurance to pay for the damages. If you don’t have comprehensive coverage, then you’re out of luck.
Regardless of these facts you should talk to your insurer to see what their specific policies are.
How GPS Works
Humans have always sought to use tools to help them survive. Through out millennia, Mankind has used tools to adapt and overcome the sometimes harsh environment he has found himself in. As time has dragged on, Man has fashioned ever more complex and high tech tools. These tools have enabled him to build the hunt for game, build the Pyramids and cross oceans. Today, that same thirst for invention has given us GPS, or Global Positioning system
Millions of people around the world have adopted the use of GPS to the point that it is fast becoming a house hold accessory. GPS allows them to help plan their trips, keep tabs on their children and keep track of their vehicles. It helps though to understand the technology that makes this all possible.
The way GPS works is a relatively simple concept when broken down completely. Strategically placed satellites that are orbiting the Earth, relay a signal searching for any GPS receiver on the surface of the Earth. The signal is received by the GPS unit and then decoded. The unit and the satellite then communicate with each other and the satellite then transmits the coordinates to the GPS unit. This transfer of data allows anyone looking at the GPS screen to see where they are currently located.
GPS was developed in the 1970′s and early 1980′s exclusively for the United States military to use. For almost two decades, the wonderment that is GPS was the U.S. military’s sole domain. Then in the 1990′s the technology was made available to the general populace. After it became commercially available, GPS slowly began its appearance int he marketplace and gradually accelerated its adoption into our culture to the point that a good GPS unit can be had for under $200.
Since the price is inexpensive, this means that GPS is affordable for pretty much every socio-economic class of people. Given the availability and low cost, GPS units are pretty much found in every vehicle on the road. This is to be expected because these units help you keep from getting lost and save you peace of mind.
If you purchase a car and it has a GPS option, you are well served to purchase it as it will not only help you, it will increase the vehicles resale. If your vehicle did not come equipped with a GPS as an option, you will want to find one that fits your budget and individual preferences.
The last thirty years, GPS has gone from military hardware to an item on our dashboards that we cannot live without. What a journey, huh?
Using ABS and Brakes for Urgent Stopping
Drivers who are alert and critically watching the road are able to use their skills to determine what dangers may lay ahead as they move on. These drivers are even able to react to the dangers swiftly without braking too quickly. Unfortunately, there are times when dangers occur that are unforeseeable. In these situations it is imperative to know how to brake safely, have control of the car, and stop in the emergency.
When trying to brake with care one needs to make sure they are braking in a straight line. Corners can make the weight of the vehicle transfer to the front of the car, lightening the rear of the vehicle, which makes stopping more difficult. The brakes have more demand on them with this situation. It is possible to skid, spin, or not stop properly if you have to brake and are going around a corner.
If there is ever a need to use heavy brakes when you go around a curve, you should apply the brakes gently and progressively allowing the transfer of weight to be less on the front and control to remain in your hands.
Most modern cars now have an anti lock braking system, know as ABS, fitted as standard and whilst it can greatly improve the control and stability of your car under heavy braking, especially when cornering, it does still have its limitations.
When you a brake heavily the ABS system can detect the point at which the wheels are starting to lock up, it then automatically releases the brakes for a fraction of second to prevent this happening. This process is repeated hundreds of times a second and occurs considerably quicker than the speed at which a normal driver could achieve.
ABS allows the wheels to continue moving, even when braking is more forceful. It also ensures the steering is controlled, and the tyres will grip. You can steer away from dangers and remain safe while driving.
The effect of ABS can normally be felt as a gentle pulsing through the brake pedal or by a distinct grinding sound. Its important that if you hear or feel these signs that you do not lift of the brake, but instead continual the heavy braking to ensure you stop in the shortest distance whilst making maximum use of the ABS.
ABS is a most effective system for heavy or emergency braking. It makes sure you can brake in a safe and controlled manner. You must realise that it cannot defy physics, which means driving to quickly on wet roads can lead to accidents even with ABS.

Driving Laws And Legal Defence
If you are ever unfortunate enough to find yourself on the wrong side of the laws of the road, you will need the best representation you can possible get. Sometimes this can be quite pricey, but if it means the difference between keeping your license or a ban, it is surely worth it, but if you win your case, most law firms will claim expenses back from the other side anyway, so their services are effectively free.
Every lawyer under the sun will tell you that they can represent you better than anyone else, but how do you know who to trust?
There’s always the option of opting for whomever quotes the lowest price, which seems tempting, but for a decision effectively dictates whether or not you keep your license, it will probably require some more thought than that. A good place to start, as with any kind of research these days, is the Internet.
Each law firm will have a website for you to peruse at your leisure. Have a look at some and see which ones you like the look of, which ones sound like they really know what they’re talking about and offer good quality information.
I would strongly advise using a dedicated road law firm. This is because specialist law firms will be far more knowledgeable in their field of expertise than a general law firm will be.
Try to find out a bit about the lawyers working for the firm. You should be sure that they are extremely qualified and experienced before asking them to represent you. Something else to look out for on the websites is testimonials from previous clients. If you can find some that actually say something about how the firm operates and that aren’t simply saying “they are excellent”(as this is all most testimonials will say), then comparing them should prove useful.
There are a few myths being spread around about loopholes in road traffic laws that simply aren’t true. People seem to be making up their own defence cases whether they are legally viable or not. You should look for a section about Internet myths on a road law web site, to show that they really are up to date and know what they are talking about.
You should feel confident about the choice you’ve made once all this research has been carried out because you should have chosen the best possible candidate to represent you.
