your cheapest option would be to install ford torsion bar keys and some 35" tires

total with renting a 10 ton gear puller for the installation set me back about $90

its a stiff ride but i think its worth it to be 4" higher
References :
http://www.fullsizechevy.com/forums/general-discussion/offroad/65871-ford-keys-torsion-bar-cranking-replacing-tech.html

I have an 02, same engine as yours but not 4x4, it has 37 inch tires and a 6 inch lift, and it could . My advice is the bigger the tires, the bigger the lift you'll need (the same the other way around...bigger lift, you need bigger tires), or else it just looks horrible, so any tires over 35 inches, get at least a 6 inch lift. Get a suspension lift definitely not a body lift. 6 inches will cost around a grand, if you get anything smaller, you will hardly notice that it is even lifted.
References :
you should know when you lift up your truck your sacrificing ride quality. when the car is higher off the ground your gonna feel a whole lot more vibrations and bumps. most people i know that run a lift kit, and thats what its called, just google it "silverado lift kits" usually use it for off roading, and they know that they must sacrifice handling for off road capabilities
